Description
This authentic turn-of-the-century western sawbuck pack saddle features the prominent "Frazier Pueblo" maker's mark, originating from the legendary R.T. Frazier saddlery in Pueblo, Colorado. Known as the "Saddle City" at the turn of the century, Frazier’s shop produced some of the most durable working gear for the American West. This utility saddle is constructed with heavy leather skirts and traditional wooden sawbuck pommels designed for securing "dead loads" in mountain terrain. It includes the original leather breeching and cinches; however, a keen eye will note that some hardware—including certain rings and buckles—appears to be later field replacements, a common occurrence for tools that remained in service for decades. The leather shows heavy crazing, surface loss, and stiffening consistent with age, while the wooden frame and iron components exhibit significant oxidation and weathering. H 24", W 21", D 24".
