SEMBRICH MARCELLA: (1858-1935) Polish Soprano. Sembrich is well-remembered for her extensive range of two and a half octaves, charm, vocal fluidity, and impressive colatura. Her voice was regarded as flute-like, sweet, pure,and brilliant. She had an important international singing career, chiefly at the Metropolitan Opera of New York and at the Royal Opera House in London. Sembrich was also a violinist and pianist. An excellent and early signed cabinet photograph by Sembrich, the Erwin Raupp photograph from Dresden depicting the Polish soprano in a three-quarter length pose with a candle in hand. Signed in bold black fountain pen ink `Marcella Sembrich´, also dated beneath in her hand in Vienna, May 1898. Bearing the photographer´s print to the verso. VG
