Description
This is a large-size US Series of 1899 $1 Silver Certificate, popularly referred to as the Black Eagle note. The obverse features a prominent central vignette of an American eagle with outstretched wings perched on a US flag, positioned above the words ONE SILVER DOLLAR. Below the eagle are small circular portraits of Abraham Lincoln at the lower left and Ulysses S. Grant at the lower right. This note bears the signatures of Register of the Treasury J.W. Lyons and Treasurer of the United States Chas. H. Treat. It displays blue serial numbers (H80120977) and a blue scalloped Treasury seal on the right side. The reverse is printed in green ink and features large numeral 1 counters surrounded by intricate geometric lathe work. The note is housed in a protective clear plastic sleeve.
