Description
COURTHION, Pierre. Monsieur Tenor. With an etching by Kurt Seligmann. Paris: Editions G.L.M., 1936. Octavo, publisher's wrappers in red paper. FIRST EDITION, limited edition of 70 numbered and signed copies by publisher Guy Levis-Mano, this is copy no. 66. Printed on fine Normandy vellum teinte paper in April 1936. Eighth number of the refined 'Reperes' collection. The work is enhanced by an original etching by Kurt Seligmann (1900-1962), central figure of Swiss Surrealism who later emigrated to New York. The engraving displays the characteristic biomorphic and dreamlike forms typical of his production in the Thirties. Slight tear at the upper corner of the cover, otherwise in good condition. Rare publication that testifies to the collaboration between Geneva art critic Courthion and Surrealist artist Seligmann, both key figures in the Franco-Swiss cultural scene.
Condition
Cover with visible tear at upper right corner and slight wear to edges; interior in good condition with Normandy vellum teint? paper slightly yellowed but without significant foxing; original etching by Kurt Seligmann present and in good state
