Unusual 19th century Chinese scholar’s brush rest / scholar’s rock giving a perfect impression of a craggy mountain range with overhanging peaks, and with the bottom carved as a seal with red seal paste in the recessed area. Somewhat unusual material - bamboo root - with twisted stems and crevices adding to the wild energy of the piece. Enlargement 5 is a photo of the bottom flipped left to right to show how the imprint will look on paper. Beautiful patina, powerful piece for a scholar’s table.
