Description
[ENIGMA MACHINE]: BALME DAVID (1920-2016) British Lieutenant Commander with the Royal Navy during World War II. Whilst serving as a navigator with HMS Bulldog, Balme seized an Enigma Machine from a German U-boat on 9th May 1941 which subsequently allowed British intelligence officers at Bletchley Park to secretly intercept and decipher signals sent from Germany to its submarines for the remainder of the war. Signed 8 x 11.5 light cardstock image of Balme standing in a three-quarter length pose in uniform on board HMS Bulldog. Signed in blue ink to the lower white border, also adding the words and date ´H.M.S- Bulldog 9th May 1941, Recovered Enigma Coding Machine from U110´ beneath his signature. VG
