LECKY JOHN: (1920-1940) British fighter pilot of World War II who served with 610 and 41 Squadrons and was killed in action during the Battle of Britain. An extremely rare D.S., J G Lecky P/O, one page, 8vo, n.p., n.d., marked Secret. The typescript document is a combat report, most likely submitted whilst serving with 610 Squadron at Biggin Hill during the Battle of Britain, and states, in full, ´When we first joined combat I saw about six Me109s below; and followed the Section leader down. The one I chased did evasive action and I lost him and the rest of the fight for a short time. I then saw 4 Spitfires re-joining formation and 2 Me109s, with bright yellow noses, diving on them from behind. I came up from below on the starboard beam and got in two successive beam shots at the 109s as they turned away. As far as I could see, the second one flew straight into my shots, which seemed to penetrate about the cockpit. I did not observe him go down at all after this, as I was doing evasive action myself´. Autographs of Lecky are extremely rare in any form as a result of his tragically early death at the age of 19 when he was shot down in combat on 11th October 1940. One file hole and some small staple holes to the upper left corner, otherwise VG
