Description
This collection features two books documenting the career of American realist artist Thomas Eakins (1844-1916). The first volume is a large-format quarto exhibition catalogue, Thomas Eakins, by Darrel Sewell, published by the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2001. This comprehensive retrospective features extensive color and monochrome plates and scholarly essays. It is bound in blue cloth and includes a pictorial dust jacket displaying Eakins' 1874 work Starting Out after Rail on the front and an 1880 albumen print of the artist on the back. The second volume is a smaller octavo titled Thomas Eakins, published by George Braziller, Inc. in 1959 as part of The Great American Artists Series. Bound in light blue cloth with Eakins printed in black cursive on the front cover, this book includes numerous plates such as the portraits of Walt Whitman and Mrs. Frank Hamilton Cushing. Per user-provided facts, this lot includes one trade paperback and one hardcover book.
