This very fine collectible piece was made by The George Washington Company in Yokohama Japan which was established in 1880. This Trapunto banner represents the arrival of Roosevelt's US Navy's Great White Fleet when it came to Japan. Japan greeted the US with open arms and produced these types of very fine bullion embroidery work to commemorate the occasion. Many US Sailors purchased them. These are made with silk and metallic thread in high relief. Fabulous hand made work by Japanese craftsmen. Size is 32X27.
