Description
Civil War U.S. Regulation Model 1850 Staff & Field Officer's Sword. U.S. regulation Staff & Field Officer's Sword unmarked but likely made in Solingen, Germany. Measures 39" overall with a 32" no fuller, slightly curved single edged blade. The blade is dark but there is discernable etching including "U.S." on one side and a spread winged American eagle on the other side. Regulation style regulation floral brass basket hilt with the cut out "US." Foliated pommel and leather wrapped and twisted brass wire wrapped grip. Steel scabbard wrapped is a most unusual reddish-brown snakeskin covering that we've not encountered before with brass furniture. Untouched and uncleaned this sword is right out of the attic with a most unique and unusual scabbard. Very nice condition overall, blade is dark and the hilt is slightly loose. Grip is fine.
