This MAGNIFICENT 100% cotton medallion album quilt is all machine pieced, hand appliqued, and precisely machine quilted, with wonderful central floral medallion, surrounded by blue frames and borders. It was made in 2015 by Ellen Schargel Rosenbach, an acclaimed quilt artist whose work has captivated audiences with its technical brilliance, historical depth, and striking originality. Her intricate one-of-a-kind designs are celebrated for their meticulous craftmanship, innovative construction, and expressive use of color and pattern. The quilt is signed and dated "Ellen Rosenbach 12-21-2015" on the reverse.
The design is based on the Benjamin Biggs Wedding Quilt, a famous 19th century sampler quilt (shown in last photo, not included with the quilt) that has been extensively documented and occasionally reproduced by modern quilters. The original quilt is an appliqued "album" quilt, featuring complex floral blocks, much like the well known "Baltimore Album" quilts from the mid-19th-century. It was made in 1848 to celebrate the Indiana marriage of Benjamin and Elizabeth Biggs on January 11, 1849.
Rosenbach's skillful rendition of the quilt features a different medallion in the center, not part of the original Bigg's quilt pattern. It was inspired by a picture of a small quilt from a red and green quilt exhibit posted many years ago.
It measures 84" X 86" and is in excellent, unused condition, with no spots, wear, holes, or fade.
There is precise machine quilting throughout, in elaborate grid, straight line, cable, and feathered designs.
The back is white, the machine stitched binding is the solid blue used in the interior, and the batting is thin. The quilt feels like, and is constructed like, a vintage quilt. This is not an import.
This WELL EXECUTED WORK OF ART in REMARKABLE CONDITION is even more impressive in real life -- it would make a terrific wall hanging!
