James Green (British, 1771-1834) Portrait of a mother and child

signed 'Js. Green' l.l., oil on canvas

93 x 70cm; framed 110 x 87cm

Condition Report:

Craquelure and stretcher marks. Repaired large T- shaped horizontal tear to centre and across the child's chest with corresponding restoration. Further retouching to mother's chin and collar and also to the child's hand. Under UV light numerous spots of retoching fluoresce with infilling to the fabric around the child and the mother's clothing. A thick layer of varnsih obscures much of the background and may conceal further restoration. PLease see additional condition images. The reverse of the canvas is boxed and has not been viewed.
