A wonderful Biedermeier-style drop-leaf table with a spectacular crotch mahogany top banded with Karelian birch and with boxwood band inlay. The table is supported by a fluted central column with water gilt gold leaf and black lacquer highlights that in turn is supported by a wide platform base featuring squat curved legs terminating in carved and gilded hairy paw feet. the table also features one pull-out drawer with an elaborate cast brass foliate decoration surrounding a false key hole. The table when closed measures 34" wide x 27" deep x 31.5" high; when extended the tables measures overall 58" wide x 27" deep. Continental Europe, circa 1875.
This table is such table is such a show-stopper that it will be the center of attention in any room and in a variety of applications. For example, it would lend itself as great bar table; it would be excellent used to a back up to a sofa; or just as a lamp table.
This table was on display in our high-end furniture and interior design showroom.
The table is in excellent condition but as an antique piece from the 19th century it may show some imperfections or abrasions consistent with its age. It has undergone some slight professional but sensitive restoration work and polishing to bring the table back to what would be closer to an original condition.
