Description
Wow! What a fantastic rare find from the 18th century. This is an eighteen piece set of dinner plates by T. Goode Copeland China produced in London, England sometime between 1764-1820. Each depicts a different exotic bird hand painted with wonderful bright colors. There are raised gold bug details, scalloped edges, and delicate flower garlands in a timeless navy colorway. Each is marked on the reverse 'T.Goode London, Copeland China England.' This set was acquired from a Jupiter Island Estate in 2025. The set is in impeccable condition given its age with only one chip, and one repaired plate. These would make a wonderful wall display to design an entire room around!
For reference, this set was designed after the 'Mecklenburg-Strelitz' service originally commissioned by King George III for his brother-in-law Adolphus Frederick IV, Duke of Mecklenberg-Strelitz in 1763. Copeland released a duplicate design in 1764 with this concave edge detail to distinguish it from the original set.
