BRITISH PICTORIAL NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen gauze, top depicting a large house or building with columns, similar to Buckingham House / Palace in London or Cliveden House in Buckinghamshire, featuring two large birds next to the main building, all flanked by two dogs and trees, below with a six-row verse including the name "Elizabeth" in between two mirrored images of a woman sitting under a willow tree with a dog at her feet, the remainder of the composition embellished by various pictorial motifs including Adam and Eve at the Tree of Life with the serpent, four crown, flowers, trees, and animals in addition to a "B" initial. Housed under glass in a modern birdseye maple veneer frame. Late 18th/first quarter 19th century. 17" x 18" sight, 19" x 19 7/8" OA.

Thread in excellent visual condition retaining much of its color, having at least one small loss to one woman figure corresponding to a hole, linen in fair to good visual condition with toning, stains, and scattered holes, proper top right corner with a loss, frame with some wear and surface scratches, some small chips to veneer. Not examined out of frame.
