Description
Good working condition. This late 19th-century mantel clock, often referred to as a kitchen or gingerbread clock, was manufactured by the E. Ingraham Company in Bristol, Connecticut. The case is constructed from carved wood with a dark finish, featuring elaborate gingerbread-style fretwork including scroll and foliate motifs. The front glass door is divided into two sections: a clear upper pane for viewing the dial and a lower pane decorated with an ornate gilt-lithographed design featuring classical urns and scrolling foliage. The main white dial displays black Roman numerals and a minute track, with two winding arbors located at the 4 and 8 o clock positions. At the center of the dial is a secondary silver-toned alarm-setting disc with Roman numerals I-XII. The clock is fitted with black spade-style hour and minute hands. The mechanical eight-day spring-driven movement includes an ornate brass pendulum bob, a wire coil gong for the hourly strike, and a brass bell for an alarm function. The lower edge of the dial is marked MANUFACTURED BY THE E. INGRAHAM CO. BRISTOL CONN. U.S.A. and THE E. INGRAHAM CO. is printed below the center. The interior wooden base is stamped THE E. INGRAHAM & CO. BRISTOL, CONN. and a fragmentary paper label on the reverse reads E. INGRAHAM.
