Description
This American utility quilt features an improvisational patchwork top composed of various rectangular and square cotton fabric blocks. The material palette includes solid-colored wovens in tan, light blue, and gray, interspersed with pink and white floral calico and blue and white micro-check textiles. The piece is entirely hand-quilted in a traditional Baptist Fan pattern, also known as a shell or arc motif, consisting of repeating concentric curves. The reverse side consists of a plain off-white cotton backing. The quilt is finished with a white fabric binding that is hand-stitched to the edges. The construction displays visible running stitches and irregular fabric joins characteristic of mid-century utilitarian textile production.
