Description
68 x 82 This textile is a vintage hand-quilted bedcovering featuring the traditional Dresden Plate pattern. The quilt is comprised of twenty individual blocks arranged in a four-by-five grid. Each block contains a circular arrangement of sixteen pointed fabric petals in a variety of solid colors, including shades of forest green, turquoise, navy blue, mustard yellow, brown, and pale pink. These decorative plates are hand-appliqu?d onto a solid lavender or lilac purple cotton ground. A central circular patch of the same purple fabric finishes each plate. The central field is bordered by an off-white inner frame and a matching lavender outer border. The reverse side consists of a solid off-white cotton fabric. The construction is entirely hand-quilted. The background areas feature diagonal parallel line quilting, while the areas surrounding the Dresden Plate blocks are quilted with radiating concentric circles. The off-white inner border is decorated with a hand-quilted cable or rope-like motif. The color palette and construction techniques are characteristic of mid-20th-century American quilting, typically dating from the 1930s to the 1950s.
