Description
66 x 82 A vintage American hand-quilted patchwork scrap quilt dating to the early-to-mid 20th century. The quilt top is constructed from an eclectic variety of cotton fabric scraps including ditsy florals, ginghams, and geometric prints characteristic of the 1930s and 1940s. The design is structured with vertical bars and blocks of blue and white striped ticking or shirting fabric interspersed with diagonal string-pieced and square patchwork blocks. The piece is hand-quilted throughout in a horizontal channel pattern. The reverse is composed of plain white cotton fabric constructed from repurposed grain or flour sacks. Faded blue stenciled lettering is visible on the backing material with legible text including FINE, PURE GRAIN, and MANUFACTURED BY.
