Description
80 x 110 This is a vintage American scrap patchwork utility quilt executed in a make-do or crazy quilt style. The quilt top is machine-constructed from a diverse assortment of irregular fabric scraps, predominantly cotton and cotton blends. The patchwork includes a wide variety of mid-20th-century textile designs, such as bold florals, paisleys, plaids, checks, stripes, and calico prints. One specific novelty print features a cat in a hat in the style of mid-century children's book illustrations. The reverse of the quilt is made from large panels of white and off-white fabric, likely repurposed muslin or bed sheeting, which have been roughly joined with machine stitching. The quilting itself is minimal, consisting of irregular straight machine lines intended for functional stability. Numerous long, uncut, and trailing threads remain from the construction process.
