This is a superior standard model 1863 Springfield, type 1 made with clamping bands and no band springs, made only early 1863, 40" barrel dated 1863 at breech, VP / eagle head proofs and "NJ" surcharge for New Jersey ownership. CONDITION: very good overall, complete & original. Metal has mottled gray patina with fire pitting at breech. Stock is sound with sharp edges and 2 good inspection cartouches. Mechanics fine, shiny rifled bore with pitting near muzzle. (01-28752/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,500.
