Description
(1889 - 1945) Fuhrer of Germany and Nazi Party leader, Hitler's bloody rise to power, his military seizure of most of Europe and North Africa and his genocidal racial policies culminated in suicide in his Berlin bunker as Russian troops approached. Excessively rare T.L.S. written during his confinement in Landsburg Prison, 1p. 5.5 x 3.5 in., Aug. 4, 1924 to 'Fraulein Jutta Holtzapfel in Gruss. Hitler writes (in German): 'Dear Miss! Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your kind sending of the pillow. I was delighted by your thoughtfulness. With true German Heil Adolf Hitler' Boldy signed in full at conclusion, with typed transmittal envelope. Very good. Hitler's letters from Landsberg are virtually non-existent. Obtained from the estate of a 'Ritchie Boy', an Army intelligence agent who landed on D-Day, with letter of provenance. Adolf Hitler was imprisoned in Landsberg Prison in Bavaria from April to December 1924 for high treason following the 1923 Beer Hall Putsch. Enjoying lenient conditions and sympathetic guards, he dictated his manifesto, Mein Kampf, to Rudolf Hess before being released early. Interestingly, as Hitler and his fellow prisoners had access to but one typewriter, this letter was typed on the same machine as Hitler's political manifesto, Mein Kampf!
