Description
(1885 - 1960) Field marshal in the Luftwaffe and at Nuremburg was tried for war crimes. Death sentence commuted due to ill health. War-date A.L.S. signed ‘Your old friend Al[bert]’, 2pp. 4to., [n.p.], Aug. 25, 1944. Kesselring writes to unidentified friends, in part: ‘…The English attack and bombardment t lasted only a short time. Here in Kesseling they dropped some incendiary bombs, but they caused little damage. Only the church was hit…Now something else occurred: many refugees, displaced people from Aachen and nearby areas, have arrived here. We have taken in several families…The food situation is still difficult, but we are managing somehow…As long as we are spared the worst, we will survive…Always draw strength from memories…’. With the original holograph transmittal envelope, very good.
