Description
(1861-1937) German Benedictine monk and Abbott of the Prague Monastery, joined the NSDAP in 1933 and publicly welcomed Hitler’s rise to power. Despite the church’s stance, Schachleiter was an honored guest at the 1934 and 1935 Nuremberg Rallies. Rare S.P. 5.5 x 3.5 in. b/w, a postcard format image showing Schachleiter amidst Nazi soldiers, titled ‘Abt Alban Schachleiter, O.S.B. [Order of St. Benedict], at the Schlageter commemoration in Trudering near Munich, May 1933’. Inscribed and signed in pencil at bottom left, adding date 1935. Slight smearing, else very good.
