Rare, war-date partly-printed D.S. ‘C. H. Stevens’, 1p. oblong 8vo., Charleston, Dec. 31, 1861, a receipt for the issue of six Colt Navy revolvers and seven cavalry sabers. Stevens signs boldly below in black ink, adding his contemporary rank ‘Col. 24 Regt S[outh] C[arolina] V[olunteers]. A contemporary pencil notation at the bottom edge clarifies that this is a substitute receipt for one lost earlier. Shows a horizontal folds, with three small tears to the edges repaired on the verso with cello tape, otherwise in very good condition overall.
