Description
(1838-1901) Confederate brigadier general who commanded a brigade under Mahone and was severely wounded at Hatcher's Run. War-date partly-printed D.S. 1p. oblong 8vo., 'Head Quarters Forces at E. Tenn.', Russellville, Tenn., Dec. 31, 1863, a Special Order granting a leave of absence to Lieut. Foster of the 21st Mississippi, signed by Sorrel as Assistant Adjutant General at bottom. Text is faded due to the use of 'adversity ink' but is still legible, and Sorrel's signature is clear and easily read. Minor mounting remnants at extreme left margin affect nothing, nor does a tape strip at left edge on verso, otherwise very good.
