Description
Manuscript Civil War-date D.S. 1p. legal folio, County of Ray, MO, July 28, 1862, in which Jacob and Winifred Darneal emancipate ‘…a mulatto man named Henry…aged about forty seven years’ for a payment of $600.00. In July 1862 and following a decisive victory at Pea Ridge, the Union was consolidating control of the state. Given the date, a manumission of such a high sum seems unusual indeed. Folds, else very good to fine.
