The arms and rail are elegantly formed in one continuous curve, terminating with hand rests swept outward. The front rail of the seat is decorated with a pair of hornless dragons. Bronze protective mounts encase the joints. These folding chairs were developed as a result of the addition of a curved rest to the high folding stools of the Southern and Northern dynasties period, their basic structure already established in the Song Dynasty. After the appearance of this folding chair, it became highly regarded in the upper echelons of society.
