The Seat of Pendock Price Esqr. at Westram'. Morants Court, Chevening (close to Westerham) is a manor of medieval origin, first recorded in 1272 in a land grant signed by William Moraunt. Enlarged in the 14th century by Sir William Moraunt, Sheriff of Kent, the manor appears on county maps from the late 16th century. Sold in 1712 to Pendock Price, it remained with the Price family through the 18th century. The estate was sold in 1848 to William Tonge, during whose ownership the house was remodelled and the grounds reorganised. In the 1930s, Sir Edward Meyerstein added an east-wing guest annex and modernised the interior.
