Description
This US Lincoln Cent is a major mint error consisting of a strike approximately 60 percent off-center. The coin is struck on a copper-plated zinc planchet. Due to the degree of the offset, the date and mint mark are not present on the planchet. The obverse strike includes the letters WE TRUST from the motto. The reverse strike displays the Lincoln Memorial design type and the letters CENT from the denomination. The planchet shows the characteristic elongation and metal flow associated with an off-center striking error. The coin is in circulated condition with visible surface wear, contact marks, and scratches. Multiple patches of green verdigris corrosion are present on both the obverse and reverse. The thin copper plating is compromised in several areas, revealing the underlying silvery-grey zinc core.
