A 1953 Canadian bronze 1-cent coin featuring a significant major mint error identified as a double strike where the planchet was flipped between impressions. The obverse features the youthful portrait of Elizabeth II, specifically the no-shoulder-strap variety, surrounded by the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA. The reverse displays the standard maple leaf design, inscribed 1 CENT, 1953, and CANADA, with the designer initials KG visible. The error manifests as prominent design doubling and ghosted secondary impressions on both faces, including a notable vertical ridge through the center of the reverse design. The coin is housed in a vintage cardboard and plastic flip bearing handwritten provenance and descriptive notes, including an address in Westport, CT. Circulated condition with significant overall wear and a dark brown patina. The error strike has resulted in design distortion and softening of some elements. The vintage cardboard flip is aged with visible staining and foxing.
