Description
A 1990 US Lincoln Memorial One Cent coin struck on a copper-plated zinc planchet featuring a broadstruck mint error. The coin was struck outside of the retaining collar, causing the planchet to expand beyond its intended diameter and resulting in a widened, distorted rim. The obverse features the Lincoln portrait design type, while the reverse displays the Lincoln Memorial design type. Significant striking pressure has caused the copper plating to split on the reverse, exposing the inner silver-colored zinc core. The coin is housed in a standard 2x2 cardboard flip holder with various handwritten notations including Broad Struck and 1990.
Diameter: 20 mm
Composition: Copper-plated zinc. Extremely fine. Design elements show crisp detail with radial distortion caused by the mint error. Visible splitting of the copper plating is present on the reverse. Minor surface marks and light oxidation are present consistent with an unslabbed specimen.
