6.5 h x 3.5 w x 4 d in (17 x 9 x 10 cm)

This finely carved Dan mask features deeply recessed circular eyes, a long, narrow nose, and small parted lips, all framed by a rich, lustrous patina. The surviving textile hood preserves an important element of the mask's original ceremonial appearance.

Provenance: Private Collection, Maryland

Condition

Good condition. Fabric shows some losses to application to wood, discoloration and tears. Wood shows some discoloration and scuffs. Dimensions listed include base integral to the work.
