Description: American Late Classical mahogany settee, circa 1840-1855. The compact upholstered form has a dramatically serpentine exposed back rising to a central point and terminating in rounded scrolls. A broad low seat rests above a bowed front rail faced in figured mahogany veneer, with shaped side supports, scalloped brackets, turned rear feet, and small casters. Upholstered in later striped floral fabric.
Dimensions: 34 in. H, 48 in. W, 19 in. D. Seat height 14 in.

Condition
Retains an old refinished surface with scattered scratches, abrasions, finish variation, and edge wear. Veneer has cracking, lifting, and scattered losses, particularly along the serpentine upper edge of the back. Later upholstery exhibits light wear, wrinkles, and scattered discoloration.
