Description: A distinctive Southern American vernacular blanket chest constructed in pine. The rectangular molded lift top is framed around a broad-board center and opens to an undecorated interior. A plain single-board front is enclosed by substantial corner posts and finished with a shaped lower edge, applied circular scroll ornaments, and turned front feet. Straight rear post feet and a broad-board back complete the sturdy case. The small iron strap hinges appear period and may be original.

Retains an old worn surafce with scratches, abrasions, stains, darkening, edge wear, shrinkage separations, and scattered small losses. Interior and rear retain a dark old surface. Top boards display surface wear and minor movement. Iron hinges appear period. Lock and key are not present.
