Description: American mahogany adjustable library or reading table, circa 1880-1910. The circular top has a molded raised edge and is supported by a substantial threaded wooden shaft permitting rotational and height adjustment. The mechanism is housed within a circular frame raised on four gently curved legs joined by a shaped quadripartite stretcher. The compact scale and mechanical construction reflect late-19th-century interest in specialized and adjustable household furniture.

Retains an old surface with scattered scratches, abrasions, stains, finish variation, and edge wear. Top has surface marks and small finish losses. Circular base frame has age-related cracks and separations. Legs and stretcher exhibit wear and minor joint movement. Adjustment mechanism has not been tested through its full range.
