A collection of vintage table lighters featuring a diverse assortment of decorative forms in turned wood and ceramic. The group includes a dark brown glazed ceramic lighter with a vertically ribbed body. The underside of this piece bears a pink-toned printed mark reading Handmade in Western Germany for situated above a shield-shaped cartouche containing the uppercase characters O K C (Photo 6). An apple-shaped lighter fashioned from myrtle wood retains an hexagonal silvered and green foil adhesive label on the base printed with the text MYRTLE A rare and beautiful wood from the evergreen forests of Oregon. Fashioned in the shops of KENNETH E. MOLITOR COOS BAY, ORE. (Photo 12). A barrel-form wooden lighter is embellished with three polished brass bands and a metal plaque embossed with the advertising text MOLSON'S CANADIAN BEER AND ALE (Photo 8). Other pieces in the collection include a rectangular wooden lighter featuring an inset panel of textured red and black material, a cylindrical brown glazed ceramic lighter, and three turned wood lighters in chalice, bucket, and jug forms. The chalice-form lighter features a brass base decorated with embossed stars (Photo 10), and the jug-form lighter is fitted with a cast brass handle (Photo 7). The removable metal lighter inserts bear various stamped manufacturer marks including ARROW (Photo 4) and KRON (Photo 3), with the latter also stamped JAPAN.
