Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.

A portrait postcard bearing the signature of Anton Chekhov (1860-1904), the celebrated Russian playwright and short-story writer.

The front features a formal portrait of Chekhov, with his name printed below in Russian and as "A. Tchekhow." The ink signature occupies the pale lower portion of the portrait. Its visible construction demonstrates rapid cursive movement, compressed interconnected forms, pronounced vertical strokes, and an extended descending terminal flourish. These individual characteristics provide useful points of comparison with documented features associated with Chekhov's handwriting and signing manner.

The reverse is printed "ОТКРЫТОЕ ПИСЬМО / CARTE POSTALE" and retains an early postal-card layout with Russian inscriptions and a Red Cross device. General toning, minor edge wear, and surface marks contribute to the period character of the piece.

Combining Chekhov's recognizable portrait with his handwritten signature, the postcard represents an appealing intersection of literary history, autograph collecting, and early photographic ephemera.
