Description
5 3/8 x 3 3/8 in (13.5 x 8.5 cm)
Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.
A black-and-white photograph depicting The Beatles, signed on the reverse by all four members: Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.
The photograph presents the group during their youthful period, capturing the distinctive appearance that became one of the defining visual images of 1960s popular culture. The association between the photographic subject and the four signatures gives the piece particularly strong display and memorabilia appeal.
The reverse bears four inscriptions executed in dark ink. McCartney's signature displays an enlarged opening "P" followed by rapidly connected lettering and extended strokes. Lennon's inscription demonstrates a comparatively compressed and fluid construction, while Harrison's signature shows an elongated horizontal rhythm through the connected forms of his surname. Starr's inscription is more graphic in execution, incorporating overlapping and extended strokes characteristic of his abbreviated signing manner. Differences in scale, slant, letter formation, and writing rhythm distinguish the four inscriptions from one another while providing localized points of comparison with known signing characteristics associated with each member.
As a fully signed Beatles photograph bringing together McCartney, Lennon, Harrison, and Starr on a directly related period image, the piece combines photographic, autograph, and music-history collecting interests in a single object.
