Description
11 x 8 1/4 in (28 x 21 cm)
Provenance and Authentication:
According to the Letter of Authenticity (LOA) and Certificate of Authenticity (COA) provided by the consignor, this collectible was subjected to a forensic examination. The accompanying documentation states that the signatures were evaluated with reference to multiple characteristics, including ink deposition, material and aging characteristics, stylistic consistency, and historical context. Based on the examination described in these documents, the authentication provider concluded that the findings were consistent with the attributed signatures. The LOA and COA provided by the consignor accompany the lot.
A Christopher Reeve-signed Superman: The Movie program, associated with the landmark 1978 motion picture in which Reeve portrayed Clark Kent and Superman. The cover features the iconic image of Reeve in flight, together with the dimensional Superman: The Movie title, the familiar Superman shield, and the original 50p price. Copyright information at the lower margin identifies DC Comics Inc., 1978.
Reeve has signed prominently in black ink across the lower portion of his cover image. The large autograph is exceptionally well positioned, remaining clearly visible without obscuring his face and creating a direct visual association between the actor, his signature, and his defining screen role.
Directed by Richard Donner and released in 1978, Superman became a landmark in the development of the modern superhero film. Reeve's interpretation of Superman and Clark Kent remains one of the most recognizable portrayals of the character in popular culture.
The combination of Reeve's autograph with a period program devoted specifically to Superman: The Movie gives the piece considerably stronger thematic association than a signature on an unrelated medium. A highly displayable example of Superman, DC Comics, Hollywood, and superhero-film memorabilia.
