Italy, probably Venice, 15th to 16th century. Forged iron cinquedea dagger or short sword remnant, retaining the broad tapering blade, guard, and heavily corroded remnants of the original scabbard. The grip is lacking. Found in a storm drain in Venice, the form relates to Renaissance Italian cinquedea weapons, characterized by their broad blade profile and compact fighting form.
