James Pickett was 25 years of age when convicted for house breaking at his trial on the 3rd December 1829. He had broken into the "dwelling-house of Sophie Coles, on the 5th of November - stealing therein 2 bags, value 3d, and 8 live tame fowls, price 9s, her property. " For his trouble, he was sentenced to 14 years transportation to the penal colony of New South Wales, arriving on the 'Adrian' on 20th August, 1830. He served his full time, being granted a ticket of leave on 6th March, 1843
