Lanier Meaders Face Jug

Description

Exceptional traditional face jug is crafted by Lanier Meaders (1917-1998), a legendary folk potter from the Mossy Creek community near Cleveland, Georgia, who is widely recognized as the most influential 20th-century maker of American face jugs. The bulbous ceramic vessel features a rich, deep alkaline glaze characteristic of traditional Southern pottery, accented by expressive hand-applied kaolin eyes, a toothless grinning mouth, and prominent protruding ears. It measures approximately 11 in. H x 7 3/4 in. in diameter overall, offering a striking sculptural and regional presence. It is offered in good condition.
