George Gach was a Hungarian-born sculptor and painter known for his portrait busts and public commissions. Following President Kennedy’s assassination, Gach created a widely exhibited sculpted bust of JFK, modeled from televised appearances and photographs of the late president. His Kennedy sculpture was displayed at the National Academy of Design and received considerable public attention during the mid-1960s. Gach’s work blended classical European sculptural traditions with modern portraiture and remains associated with artistic tributes created in the immediate aftermath of Kennedy’s death.
