1st-2nd century AD. A carinated hoop with scooped shoulders, rectangular bezel inscribed in Roman capitals 'DEO/MER' on a raised panel. Cf. Marshall, F.H. Catalogue of the Finger Rings - Greek, Etruscan and Roman - in the Department of Antiquities, British Museum, London, 1968 item Ei. Previously on loan to the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford; acquired in the 1980s. The text includes an invocation 'Deo' (Oh god) and the beginning of the deity's name, possibly Mercurius (Mercury"). 7.57 grams, 29 mm (1 1/4").
