Xu Shichang (1855-1939), Stone Painting of Narcissus Lake. Length: 80.5 cm (31.69 in); Width: 38.5 cm (15.16 in). Hanging-Scroll Narcissus and Lake-Rock by Xu Shichang, ink on paper. The painting depicts elegant narcissus flowers beside craggy lake rock. Rock texture is rendered by layered ink washes and brush-strokes. Narcissus leaves and blossoms are drawn in concise free brush-work. The whole work conveys tranquil literati-painting charm. Complete inscription and two red seals are presented on the scroll. Original antique silk-brocade mounting with obvious time-worn traces. Well preserved, it is a fine free-style flower-and-rock artwork with high artistic and collection value
