Rare Whitney Arms firearm patented by Eli Whitney Oct. 23, 1866 and produced 1870-1874 with an estimated 2500 manufactured in any gauge. This is a 12 gauge Serial #431, 32" barrel muzzle-load percussion black-powder shotgun produced under the 1866 patent until the percussion barrels were used up. Marked lightly "Whitney Arms Co., Whitneyville, Conn. Homogeneous Wrought Steel, E. Whitney's Patent Oct. 23, 1866". It is all original from matching numbers on parts, varnished walnut stock with ram-rod that may have been replaced. Would make an excellent addition to a collection of similar period firearms.
