Description
Designer/Artist & Manufacturer: Lynn Chadwick (b. 1914-2003)
Markings: signed, 362; ed. 3/3
Country of Origin & Materials: British; bronze
Additional Information: Correspondence between Sarah Marchant of the Lynn Chadwick Estate and the gallery facilitating the consignment of works from the Jaffe Estate, one of the original partners of Sponder Gallery, reads as follows: "I am concerned about the cast number stamp as it seems to be a mis-numbering. This is not a problem but you should have a note of this. If the sculpture came to the foundry for repair I can authorise them to re-stamp the number. In the cat res you will see that this is an edition of 4, not 3, so the sculpture should be 362 3/4. Sotheby’s sold a cast in November 2009 which was stamped 1/3 , so it is possible the first 3 casts were stamped incorrectly. My records are not good in this period as my father had a contract with Marlborough Fine Art and they organised the casting, usually at Brotal foundry, and sold the works without my father seeing them." Provenance: The Norman S. Jaffe Art Trust, Coral Gables, Florida. Reference: Lynn Chadwick- Sculptor, With a Complete Illustrated Catalog, Dennis Farr & Eva Chadwick, pg. 165.
Dimensions(H,W,D): 15.5"h, 5.5"w, 5"d
