A J. H. Kelly fixed globe brass top lantern with a nice red cast PRR globe. The Pennsylvania Railroad used these early Kelly frames probably dating back to the Civil War era. The frame is so early that it uses wire wraps where the vertical and horizontal wires meet. There is an 1965 patent for the "joint clips" and this lantern pre-dates that patent. The brass has nice tarnish and the metal shows definite pitting and use. There is a shop stamp in the bell that looks like "334". The J. H. Kelly marking on the bell is faint, but definite present. My pic of the underside of the bell just doesn't show it well. The early cast globes have this "straight" style block lettering and not fancy curly-Q ends on the letters. There is no damage to the globe. A fine early lantern.
