Two Kafigeledio Senufo
Item Details
Description
A hybrid creation in wood, textile and cowrie shells with remains of offerings that lies outside the realm of anything recognizable in nature, this oracle figure deliberately provokes anxiety through its shrouded anonymity and the sense of suffocation and entrapment it suggests. These works and the ritual practice in which they are used are both known as kafigeledjo ("he who speaks the truth"). The Wanyugo firespitter figures evoke invisible bush spirits, and function as divination devices. Kafigeledjo divination is used to uncover misdeeds, false testimony, and culpability. The twins of the Kafigeledio adds to its effectiveness in confronting harmful forces, as twins are widely believed to be magical, or even malevolent. H= 65cm
Condition
Vintage condition, remains of offerings, cracks in the wood.
Dimensions
64.4 x 13.9 x 10.9 cm
